About the role

We are hiring a Senior HR Manager to lead key people systems and help shape the employee experience at HEO. This role is responsible for delivering the foundations of a high performing, values aligned team environment, with a focus on three core areas: culture, people experience and compliance.

You’ll be joining a fast paced, high tempo organisation, where priorities shift quickly and clarity isn’t always handed to you. We’re looking for someone who thrives in ambiguous environments, can quickly identify high impact actions, and has the judgment to distinguish between what needs to be perfect and what just needs to get done. You’ll need to be adaptable, proactive, and able to work autonomously. This is a challenging role, but one with huge impact and opportunity to make it your own.

You will lead the implementation of essential HR processes across onboarding, learning and development, HRIS, performance, policy and people operations. You’ll also play a central role in shaping how we work together, ensuring our internal culture is thoughtful, inclusive and aligned with our values.

This is a hands on role where you’ll be responsible for both designing and delivering key people systems. As part of the Operations team, you’ll work closely with the Head of Operations and founders to build and improve the systems that support our team as we grow. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, deliver meaningful change and contribute to the development of a great place to work.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation and administration of our HRIS (Rippling), including workflows, documentation and team onboarding.
  • Maintain and improve company HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance, clarity and consistency.
  • Design and deliver onboarding and offboarding experiences that are structured, engaging and inclusive.
  • Develop and coordinate an annual learning and development calendar with relevant internal and external training opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and oversee quarterly HR data audits.
  • Report on key people metrics, including onboarding feedback, attrition and engagement.
  • Deliver the annual performance and remuneration review cycles, including documentation, manager guidance and coordination.
  • Coordinate recruitment processes, including job postings, interview scheduling and candidate communications.
  • Maintain internal people documentation and guidance to support team clarity and consistency.
  • Support employee relations, including performance conversations, policy implementation and workplace investigations.
  • Contribute to engagement, wellbeing and recognition initiatives that reflect our values and support clear, values aligned communication.
  • Build a sense of shared culture and connection across our international team (Australia, US, UK, Japan), helping to foster engagement and alignment in a distributed environment.

About you

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in generalist HR roles, ideally in fast paced or scaling environments.
  • Deep knowledge of Australian HR compliance, policies and employment law.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and identifying high-impact priorities in complex environments.
  • Adaptable, resilient and energised by change.
  • Strong experience implementing and managing HR systems and people processes.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • Comfortable owning projects end to end and working closely with leadership.
  • Professional, proactive and thoughtful in your approach to building a strong employee experience.
  • Organised, detail-oriented and confident managing competing priorities.
  • Confident using HR tools and platforms, and comfortable adopting new systems and technology quickly.
  • Cross-cultural awareness and the ability to collaborate effectively in a multinational team.

Perks and benefits

  • Employee Share Option Plan (Own a piece of HEO)
  • Full-time role based in office, with flexibility for hybrid work
  • Central location in Sydney’s Tech Central
  • Flexible leave options so you can recharge and relax when best suits you – no forced leave during office shutdowns
  • A generous parental leave policy
  • End of trip facilities - bicycle parking and showers

Our commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We make hiring decisions based on your experience, skills and passion, as well as how you can enhance HEO and our culture. Research shows that women and underrepresented groups are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single competency or experience. If you are excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be just the right person for this role and HEO. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at time of application and throughout the interview process.
